Choosing a coach is a big step for any business owner - you're bound to have lots of questions...

Frequently asked questions

What is ActionCOACH?

+

Created in 1993 by CEO Brad Sugars, ActionCOACH is the world’s number one business coaching company. ActionCOACH has successfully delivered its proven business growth models to over 750,000 business owners across the globe and currently operates offices in over 90 different countries.

What is business coaching?

+

Imagine you are an average golfer who dreams of playing off scratch or a low single-digit handicap – within the next 12 months. Would you choose to pay for endless hours on the driving range further ingraining bad habits or would you invest in the services of an experienced coach to help you identify strengths and weaknesses in your swing, along with opportunities for improvements and identify potential pitfalls as you progress on your journey? Business Coaching is no different from this.

We may have been taught ‘business studies’ at school, college or university, but this never prepared us for the reality of owning or leading a company. Your Business Coach will train you, guide you, mentor you and hold you accountable for your goals and actions. Your coach will help you to analyse your ‘business swing’ but they will not hit the ball for you. They will become your confidant, your teacher and your compassionate, yet uncompromising friend.

Why would I need a business coach?

+

There are almost endless reasons why a business owner, leader or senior manager would benefit from the support of a certified professional business coach. Being a business leader can be a lonely occupation as you need to wear many hats and often have little support outside your family and friends.

Your ActionCOACH will become your mentor, confidant and your compassionate yet uncompromising friend. Your ActionCOACH will be there to guide you through the tough times and celebrate with you as you achieve your successes.

What is One-to-One coaching?

+

Our 1-2-1 coaching programmes are our most intensive and effective methodologies for achieving personal and business growth. Our 1-2-1 coaching programmes are bespoke to and designed to focus on all areas of your personal and business development, leaving no stone unturned on your journey to building the life and business you’ve always dreamed of.

You will be educated in cutting-edge business development techniques, develop new sales & marketing strategies, and gain the skills to build powerful systems and a high-performing team. You will be held accountable to complete the work required to achieve your goals.

What is group coaching?

+

Our Group Coaching programmes are designed around our ‘CAREFree’ philosophy.

‘C’ stands for ‘community’. Each of our group programmes harnesses the power of shared learning and sense-making in a safe personal development ecosystem with other business owners and leaders at a similar stage in their journeys.

‘A’ stands for ‘Accountability’. Here you will be held to account by other members of your programme in a supportive, fun environment. They want you to succeed and will challenge you to ensure that you achieve the goals and actions you set for yourself.

‘R’ stands for ‘Results’ as you will share and celebrate your successes with your peers and inspire one another to achieve even greater heights.

‘E’ stands for ‘Education’. All of our group programmes are facilitated by a World-Class Certifies Action Business Coach and supported by the world’s No.1 resource for business growth and education. You will learn new strategies, tools and frameworks to implement into your life and business straight away, ultimately empowering you to achieve the goals you have set for yourself.

‘Free’ is what it’s all about – creating true freedom for you and your family by building a real business, which we define as “a commercial, profitable enterprise that can work without you.”

How long do coaching programmes last?

+

This depends on your goals and just how far you want to grow. Just like everything else in life, true performance requires a life-long commitment to self-development. There are no ‘quick fixes’ and we recommend undertaking a programme of a minimum of 24 months to experience significant, lasting change. In reality, our clients stay for much longer as there’s always a new challenge and their horizons are constantly evolving.

How long do I have to sign up for?

+

Only 30 days! If you subsequently decide that business coaching isn’t for you, simply cancel - or better still - downgrade to our FREE membership at any time with 30 days’ notice. You will retain the benefits of our FREE membership and take advantage of members-only offers and initiatives.

You can also choose to pause your membership if you are taking a break and upgrade your membership tier at any time. It’s worth considering that it often takes six months to see real sustainable change in your business – there are no ‘silver bullet’ solutions.

You will undoubtedly see many short-term benefits and we recommend sticking with your programme for a minimum of 24 months to achieve substantial long-term change. You are covered by our cast-iron money-back growth guarantee during that time, so you have nothing to lose from fully committing to your programme.

Can I cancel my coaching if I'm not happy?

+

Absolutely! There are no long-term contracts, and you can cancel your chosen membership program with 30 days’ notice or change to a different membership tier. Simply put, we want you to feel comfortable and secure that this is the right investment for you and your business. We even guarantee our results!

Are there extra charges to implement the strategies?

+

Absolutely not! Full implementation of all strategies, tools and frameworks is part of your coaching programme. You will find that implementing these strategies will actually save you money! Whether you are on a group or 1-2-1 coaching programme, you will be shown how to implement strategies and then held accountable to do the work by your coach and your peers in the community.

Everyone in the ActionCOACH Family is committed to your business and personal growth and you will find support is gladly given whenever you need it – whether that be from the ActionCOACH team or our community of incredible business leaders.

Will business coaching work in my industry, business or for my problem?

+

The ActionCOACH system has been proven to work in businesses of all sizes, industries and at every stage of development. Over 750,000 businesses worldwide have been coached to success using these proven methodologies. Whilst every business and team are different, the challenges they face are often remarkably similar.

Your Coach will work with you to identify the causes of your challenges and barriers to success, rather than the symptoms, and together you will select the most effective strategies to overcome these obstacles and create a strategic roadmap to achieve the success you desire.

How much time or work will I have to put in?

+

The purpose of coaching is to make you more efficient and effective in how you choose to invest all of your resources, the most precious of which is your time. Time mastery is often the first place we start at the beginning of the coaching journey. We analyse your relationship with time, where you are currently spending it and give you clarity around your choices.

This empowers you to make dramatic improvements in both productivity and efficacy. You will then begin investing more of your time working ‘on’ the business as a true leader rather than ‘in’ the business as part of the machinery. We recommend a minimum of 20% of your time should be invested in working ‘on’ activities and we will help you find this.

Will it cost more to implement my new business strategy?

+

As you gain clarity and control over your business you will begin to make decisions that may lead to increased investment in marketing, infrastructure, and human resources. Your Coach will challenge you to ensure your decisions are carefully considered in line with your business and personal goals.

More importantly, you will learn how to test and measure the output of your decisions to ensure they are adding value to your business and generating a return on investment. Failing to invest could stifle the growth of your business. Equally, there are many ways to invest resources and you will learn how to make the right choices for your business.

What do you know about my industry?

+

That depends on your industry and can range from everything to very little! In reality, your Coach having an in-depth knowledge of a particular industry is not necessary for your coaching programme to be successful. What you need to know to grow your business is independent of the industry or sector in which you operate. You are the expert in your business and your coach will work with you to fill the gaps in your knowledge of your market whilst training you in world-class business and personal development techniques.

That said, one of the most powerful advantages of working with ActionCOACH is that we are part of a network of over 1,000 certified business coaches in over 90 countries across the globe. This allows us to reach out to our community to assist in areas requiring specialist knowledge and/or expertise. We are abundant and freely offer our time to assist our colleagues around the world.

Will you tell me how to run my business?

+

Certainly not! Coaching is about empowering you to create the results you desire through a process of learning, application, iteration, and reflection. You will gain clarity on what you ultimately want to achieve in life, through improving your business results. Your coach will brainstorm with you to formulate new ideas and strategies while helping you choose those that are most appropriate for your desired outcomes - but the decisions will remain in your hands at all times.

In our experience, our members broadly know what needs to be done in their business on a day-to-day basis, but often don’t apply themselves consistently or with sufficient focus to achieve the results to which they aspire. Your coach will help you to define what success looks like in your own terms, identify barriers to success and formulate an action plan to overcome those obstacles using the ActionCOACH proven 6 Step formula.

What type of topics will I be coached on?

+

The ActionCOACH system focuses on developing the six foundational areas of business mastery: Marketing, Sales, Finance, Operations, Product/Service Delivery and Team Performance. You will work with your coach to identify your current performance in each of these areas, and then prioritise which to work on first. This strategic roadmap is customised to your needs and the needs of your business.

Often you will need to revisit areas again as you grow, and your systems evolve. This process is evolutionary and adapts to your performance and business environment. At the core of this is of course the business owner and leadership team. Here you will work on areas such as Self-Mastery, Decision Making, Communication, Leadership and Management. You will learn the ‘Cycle of Business’ and focus on areas in which you can add the most value to your organisation while empowering your team to run the business for you.

Should I include my business partner, fellow directors and/or key employees?

+

We highly recommend that all partners, key employees and decision-makers are engaged in the process. Of course, there are various ways in which they can participate in the coaching programmes, but all need to support the journey and be open to achieving improved results through positive change.

ActionCOACH offer programmes that can accommodate multiple team members so everyone grows together at the same pace, regardless of their direct involvement in the programme. Your coach will work through a group strategy session with you to find the right programme for your needs.

What’s the difference between a Life Coach and a Business Coach?

+

Interestingly, this line can often become blurred. Your business coach will first help you to create clarity around what you truly want to achieve in life, after all being in business should give you more life! Once you are clear on your personal goals, your coach and then help you build an action plan for your business so that it supports the life you desire and deserve.

Your business coach will work as hard on you as they do on your business as it is your values, beliefs, skills, behaviours, decisions, and actions that will ultimately determine the success of your business. Your coach will help you get your business to a place where it can work without you – if you choose to – allowing you time to pursue other interests pursuits. A life coach can help you to uncover what your passions are, identify hidden talents, and explore how to best use them.

What's the difference between a Consultant and a Business coach?

+

A business consultant is typically appointed to work on a specific problem or project within your business. They usually have a specialism such as accounting, systematisation or organisational change. Once the consultant has completed the project, you will be provided with a report or series of recommendations to implement. The consultant may also carry out some or all of the work for you without transferring their knowledge, so you will need to hire them again to deliver future projects.

A Business Coach is focused on you as a business leader and on developing your skills, capabilities and capacity to grow your business. Your Coach will help you to see the ‘bigger picture’ and how individual projects fit together to help you achieve your goals. Your Business Coach will help you to work smarter, with focus and clarity. This will enable you to achieve your goals faster and more efficiently. Consultants provide you with a fish. Your Business Coach will teach you how to fish, and catch whoppers!

What results have other business owners seen from working with an ActionCOACH?

+

Each of us is distinctive and our measurements of success are unique to us. For this reason, the results achieved by ActionCOACH members across the globe have been both transformational and inspirational. These include achieving personal results such as reducing the working week from over 80 hours to less than 20 to spend more time with loved ones, taking multiple vacations each year to exotic locations, clearing personal debts, creating sustainable passive income streams, and building a substantial asset base.

Of course, we have also seen powerful business successes including increasing turnover by 10x and more, global expansion, creating new products and services to explore new markets, increasing profits exponentially and the holy grail of building a commercial, profitable enterprise that can work without the owner. Explore some of the success stories of ActionCOACH clients here.

Why not hire a consultant?

+

Business Coaches and Consultants both have a valuable part to play in your journey. A business consultant is typically a specialist that will deliver a service but then retain the knowledge and expertise. After all, this is how they generate their income. On the other hand, your Coach will take a more holistic, nuanced, long-term approach to your business and personal growth.

If you have the requirement for a specialist consultant in your business, your Coach will help you select the right consultant for the project and ensure the project is delivered successfully. They will also help you develop the skills and capabilities to reduce your reliance on consultants in the future.
